Spirit Of Boom Wins Gr1 Doomben 10,000

Monday, 26th May 2014

At Doomben in Queensland, Lyndhurst Stud's Sequalo (Rustic Amber-Dash Around, by Bending Away) celebrated a Gr1 triumph when 6YO entire Spirit Of Boom (Sequalo-Temple Spirit, by Special Dane) scored by 0.2-length for trainer Tony Gollan in the $650,000 Gr1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m) for 3YO+, over his half-brother 7YO gelding Temple Of Boom (Piccolo-Temple Spirit, by Special Dane) & fellow 6YO gelding Buffering (Mossman-Action Annie, by Anabaa). Spirit Of Boom took his record to 9 wins (including the Gr1 William Reid Stakes, Gr2 Caulfield Sprint Handicap, Listed Ken Russell Memorial Classic & Listed Goldmarket Handicap) & 20 placings (including the Gr1 Oakleigh Plate - twice, Gr1 Newmarket Handicap, Gr1 Winterbottom Stakes, Gr1 BTC Cup, Gr2 Gilgai Stakes & Gr2 The Shorts) from 51 starts for $2,372,900 earnings. Spirit Of Boom was purchased by Gollan for $90,000 at the 2009 Magic Millions QTIS 600 Yearling Sale from the draft of breeder Eureka Thoroughbreds. Spirit Of Boom may have one more start in the Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap in a fortnight before retiring to stand at his birthplace, Eureka Stud. "A Stradbroke would be a dream farewell and we'll just see what the handicapper does," he said. "But he's done his job now and deserves a Gr1 in Brisbane."
