Buffering Tipped Out For Spring Campaign

Tuesday, 27th May 2014

Crack Queensland sprinter Buffering (Mossman-Action Annie, by Anabaa) will miss next month's Gr1 Stradbroke Handicap with trainer Robert Heathcote electing to spell him and concentrate on the spring, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Heathcote said he decided to abandon plans to run Buffering in the $1.36 million winter feature as he feels the 6YO is racing below his best this preparation. Buffering finished third behind siblings Spirit of Boom and Temple of Boom in last Saturday's Gr1 Doomben 10,000 and Heathcote believes he will find it difficult reversing that form. "The two Boom horses beat him fair and square on Saturday (but) I don't see any merit in going to the Stradbroke with a weight that hasn't been carried since 1896 when James Cook was here," said Heathcote. "There is no point. The two Boom horses beat him on Saturday under weight-for-age conditions over 1350m and all of a sudden I have to give them 1.5kg and 4kg in the Stradbroke?" Heathcote said the Melbourne spring carnival was "first and foremost" in his thinking with Buffering, who this season won the Gr1 Manikato and VRC Sprint Classic in Melbourne.
