Chrome Gleaming Ahead Of Belmont

Tuesday, 27th May 2014

California Chrome showed he was on track to record an historic Triple Crown sweep in the Belmont Stakes on 7 June with a strong exercise gallop at Belmont Park on Sunday, reports bloodhorse.com. "He just keeps getting stronger," said Alan Sherman, assistant trainer to his father Art Sherman, after the chestnut colt galloped two miles around the track. "I can see it in his stride and the way he's taking hold of (exercise rider) Willie (Delgado), he seems to like this track. He's actually put on some weight since the Preakness." Sherman said the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes winner was settling in well to his new environment. "This morning, with the way the sun was hitting him, he was shining like a new penny," he added. "He looks so good right now." If California Chrome is successful in the Belmont, he will become the 12th Triple Crown winner in history and the first since Affirmed in 1978.
