Duke To Stand In South Africa

Wednesday, 28th May 2014

South African stud farm Drakenstein Stud has purchased Duke Of Marmalade (Danehill-Love Me True, by Kingmambo) from Coolmore Stud in a deal brokered by Blandford Bloodstock, reports 1.skysports.com. The 5-time Gr1-winning son of champion sire Danehill was Europe's leading second crop sire of stakes winners last year, outperforming the likes of New Approach, Henrythenavigator and Raven's Pass. Duke Of Marmalade received a Timeform rating of 132 after a brilliant 4YO campaign that included Gr1 victories in the Prince Of Wales's Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Juddmonte International at York and the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Ascot. Drakenstein Stud's owner Gaynor Rupert said: "I am absolutely delighted that a horse of the quality and calibre of Duke Of Marmalade is coming to Drakenstein Stud to stand alongside Trippi, Horse Chestnut, Philanthropist and What A Winter." Duke Of Marmalade entered quarantine on Monday and will ship to Cape Town next month in time for the Southern Hemisphere breeding season. Duke Of Marmalade is a half-brother to Epsom Derby winner Ruler Of The World and hails from the outstanding US family of champion sire AP Indy, Summer Squall, Eavesdropper and Lemon Drop Kid. This is a family that has already enjoyed great success in South Africa through the deeds of stallions Al Mufti (Roberto-Lassie Dear) and his deceased half-brother Wolfhound (Nureyev-Lassie Dear).
