First Frankel Foal To Sell In Japan
The first foal by the mighty Frankel to be offered at auction will do so at the JRHA July Select Sale in Japan on 15 July, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. The filly, who is one of 231 foals catalogued to sell, is out of the Qatar Bloodstock-owned Foxhound mare Goodwood March, the dam of Hong Kong star Gold-Fun. "We went out to Japan last year and bought some foals and Sheikh Fahad decided to develop a project and send a number of mares out there," said Qatar Bloodstock's adviser David Redvers. "It looks very exciting and it will be interesting to see how it works out." He added, "She's a very nice foal and we hope she'll be well received. Being by Frankel, you'd have to be hopeful." Frankel's inaugural progeny are expected to light up sales rings when they are offered at this year's round of foal sales. The unbeaten 10-time Gr1 winner covered a stellar book of mares in his first season at Juddmonte's Banstead Manor Stud near Newmarket, including 38 Group or Gr1 winners and 26 dams of Group or Gr1 winners.
