Scenic Blast Finds New Home

Wednesday, 28th May 2014

Meanwhile, Racing and Wagering Western Australia has announced that former triple Gr1-winner Australian sprinter Scenic Blast will be joining its Off the Track program. Off The Track was recently established by Racing and Wagering Western Australia to promote Thoroughbreds and Standardbreds in retirement. Trained by Dan Morton for prominent owners Elio and Jackie Galante, the son of Scenic won 8 of his 31 starts including Gr1 victories in the Newmarket Handicap, Lightning Stakes and King Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot. Scenic Blast was crowned Australian Horse of the Year in 2008-09 and retired in 2012 with over $2 million in prize-money. Sharon Joyce, Off the Track's Equine Welfare Officer, said being offered Scenic Blast was a humbling experience. "Dan [Morton] phoned and enquired about the program, hoping we could assist him to find Scenic Blast a suitable home," said Joyce. "We suggested he could be the ambassador for Off the Track, and Dan was so pleased that this horse could promote second careers for other racehorses post racing." She added, "I cannot think of a better ambassador for Off the Track and he will be an attendee at various race meetings and equestrian events across the state to promote retired racehorses."
