Earthquake Returns To Work

Thursday, 29th May 2014

Outstanding filly Earthquake (Exceed and Excel-Cataclysm, by Marauding) is back in training and will be set for the feature fillies events over the spring carnival, reports horseracing.com.au. The daughter of Exceed And Excel established herself as one of the stars of the autumn, winning the Gr1 Blue Diamond Stakes and Gr2 Reisling Stakes before ending her juvenile season with a narrow second to Mossfun in the Golden Slipper at Rosehill. Earthquake was sent to the spelling paddock following her Golden Slipper defeat and Darley Media Manager Jason Walsh told Sky Racing HQ that the 2YO had thrived in her time away from the stable. "She spent seven weeks at Osborne Park and actually returned to work yesterday [Tuesday]," Walsh said. "One of the things that made her the great two-year-old that she is, is her great constitution and she is in great order." Darley dominated the 3YO fillies division last year with Guelph and Earthquake will follow the same path this campaign. She will resume in Gr2 Light Finger Stakes (1200m) at Randwick and will contest the Gr2 Tea Rose Stakes (1400m) and Gr1 Flight Stakes (1600m) in Sydney before a potential trip south for the Gr1 One Thousand Guineas (1600m) in Melbourne. "We will start her in the Princess Series in Sydney with the Flight Stakes as her target," Walsh said. "We followed that path with Guelph last year...and we certainly rate Earthquake as having that sort of ability in terms of her class."
