MM National Broodmare Day-1: Average Soars 143%
Ten lots sold for over $1 million during a record breaking Day One of the Magic Millions National Broodmare Sale on the Gold Coast yesterday. Unprecedented international participation led to records being shattered across the board during a memorable day of selling highlighted by the Teeley Assets Dispersal. Beautifully related and top producing mare Monsoon Wedding fetched the day's highest price when she was knocked down to Tom Magnier of Coolmore Stud for $2.3 million. She was one of two high profile mares on the day purchased by the Coolmore team, with Magnier also signing for star sprinter Lankan Rupee's dam Estelle Collection for $1.4 million. New Zealand based bloodstock agent Dean Hawthorne went to $1.9 million to secure Hussonet mare The Broken Shore, one of five daughters of Shantha's Choice offered. She was offered in foal to Pierro. Three other lots sold for $1.5 million - one a daughter of Shantha's Choice and two from her daughter and sale topper Monsoon Wedding. Henry Field's Newgate Farm was also active, purchasing three of the million dollar mares - Quench the Thirst (for $1.5m), Precious Lorraine ($1.5m), and Your Life Style ($1.2m). The Teeley Dispersal grossed over $23 million and averaged a staggering $404,000. In total, 174 lots sold for $35.8 million at a record average price of $205,810. The clearance rate finished at an exceptional 92 per cent, beating last year's opening figure of 85 per cent. "The story is in the numbers," Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox said. "From the moment you walked onto the grounds this morning you could sense we were in for something special and we weren't let down."
