Arabian Gold Ready For Oaks

Friday, 30th May 2014

Trainer David Vandyke has given the green light to Queensland Oaks favourite Arabian Gold (Dubawi-Coablo, by Vettori) to contest Saturday's Gr1 fillies Classic at Eagle Farm, reports racingnetwork.com.au. The daughter of Dubawi was in some doubt for the big race following a scare on Tuesday morning when she twisted a plate and stood on a shoe, but showed there was no cause for concern with a pleasing track gallop yesterday morning. "She just did some three-quarter pace work this morning and she was perfect – no problems at all," Vandyke said. "It's better to have problems before the race than in it." He added, "We didn't have to patch it up with anything and she seems 100 percent." The Nick Moraitis-owned Arabian Gold is coming off a brilliant Oaks trial when scoring a dominant win in the Gr2 Doomben Roses (2000m) two weeks ago. Indeed, Arabian Gold would appear to have the Oaks at her mercy, with this year's field seemingly lacking the depth of previous editions.
