Brown Panther Books Royal Ascot Ticket
Brown Panther (Shirocco-Treble Heights, by Unfuwain) announced himself as a leading Ascot Gold Cup contender when scoring a dominant win in the Gr3 Henry II Stakes (16 furlongs) at Sandown overnight, reports racingpost.com. Bred and part-owned by former English footballer Michael Owen, the 6YO claimed his second Group 3 in the space of 20 days after landing the Ormonde Stakes at Chester earlier this month. Brown Panther will now head to Royal Ascot, which has long been described as his main target in Britain, before a possible return trip for the Melbourne Cup later in the year. "I'm absolutely delighted. Today was a test and he had to come out on top if we were realistically to go for the Gold Cup," said trainer Tom Dascombe. "Hopefully now he will. He should stay the trip at Ascot, and I don't see why he won't."
