Historian Targets Brisbane Cup

Friday, 30th May 2014

Gary Alton has been forced to put back his plans by a week with his dual Gr1 winner Historian, reports NZ Racing Desk. The New Zealand trainer was keen to run the Choisir gelding in Saturday's Gr2 Eagle Farm Cup (2200m), but will now wait for the Gr2 Brisbane Cup (2400m) on Saturday week. "He's had a bruised heel and I just ran out of time," Alton said. "I worked him on the treadmill this (Thursday) morning and he's coming right again now." Historian failed to flatter on his Australian debut, finishing second to last in the Gr3 Lord Mayor's Cup at Doomben, and Alton said the 6YO would be better suited to a longer trip at Eagle Farm.
