Flying Spur Colt Impresses In South Africa

Still at Vaal in South Africa, hoop Gavin Lerena also enjoyed a push-button ride aboard another emerging young Australian-bred galloper when the Flying Spur colt Samogan cruised to an effortless 5.5-lengths victory in the Emerald Cup Handicap (1450m). Trained by Sean Tarry, Samogan is out of Elusive Quality mare Superleggera, making him a three-quarter brother to Widden Stakes-winning filly Georgette Silk. This is also the family of South African Gr1 winner Sydney's Dream, the dam of Arrowfield's Gr1-winning stallion Charge Forward, as well as multiple Group winner Kidman's Cove and Gimcrack Stakes winner Donna Natalia.
