Magnificent Zabeel Claims Champion Broodmare Honours

Friday, 1st August 2014

Meanwhile, super stallion Zabeel has once again been crowned champion broodmare sire of both Australia and New Zealand, reports NZ Racing Desk. It is the third season in a row that the recently retired Cambridge Stud resident has dominated the broodmare premierships on both sides of the Tasman. Zabeel finished with earnings of $17,113,270 in Australia, well clear of Danehill on $13,620,675, and was the dam sire of 206 individual winners, including 18 individual stakes winners. He was best represented by Gr1 winners Atlantic Jewel, Dundeel, Go Indy Go and Silent Achiever, who are all out of Zabeel mares. In New Zealand, Zabeel amassed earnings of NZ$2,097,085 and was the dam sire of 69 individual winners, including six individual stakes winners. Gr1 winners out of Zabeel's daughters were O'Marilyn and Silent Achiever. The New Zealand broodmare premiership, however, was a much tighter contest with second placed O'Reilly just NZ$169,165 shy of Zabeel's total.
