Wise Dan Pleases In Saratoga Work
Two-time US Horse of the Year Wise Dan worked five furlongs in 1:02.04 at Saratoga on Saturday as trainer Charlie LoPresti continues to weigh his options for the 7YOs first race since undergoing colic surgery in May, reports bloodhorse.com. "I was very, very pleased with what I saw this morning," LoPresti said. "That's the kind of work I was looking for this week. I want to see him back to where he used to be, and now he's coming the right way." LoPresti said there were plenty of options available for Wise Dan, but nominated the Gr1 Woodward or the Gr2 Bernard Baruch as Wise Dan's comeback race. "I've got two options," LoPresti said Saturday. "If he keeps going the right way, he'll either run in the Baruch or the Woodward, and I like what I saw today on the dirt." LoPresti will then consider the Gr1 Woodbine Mile (13 September), a race Wise Dan has won the last two years running, and the Gr1 Shadwell Turf Mile on 4 October as targets later in the season.
