Hannon Colt To Step Up To Gr1 Kompany
Richard Hannon's exciting juvenile Kool Kompany (Jeremy-Absolutely Cool, by Indian Ridge) is set to be supplemented for Sunday's Gr1 Keeneland Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh, reports attheraces.com. The 2YO has won five times from six starts during his debut season, with his only defeat coming when failing to fire in the Gr2 Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot, albeit only 5-lengths behind potential star The Wow Signal. Kool Kpmpany has since put that performance behind him with successive Gr2 victories in the Railway Stakes at the Curragh and the Prix Robert Papin at Maisons-Laffitte, and connections are keen to step up Gr1 level in Ireland this weekend. "He is entered in the Prix Morny, but as usual the Hannon team have a lot of good two-year-olds to juggle with the likes of Ivawood, Tiggy Wiggy and Estidhkaar also in the mix along with Kool Kompany," said Tim Palin, racing manager for owners Middleham Park Racing. "Richard Hannon will ring me in the morning with a gallops report, but assuming all is well with Kool Kompany and he's thriving, the plan is to supplement him for the Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday." He added, "We could go for the Gimcrack or the Mill Reef with a Group Two penalty, or we could chase the money down the sales race route, but we think he deserves his shot at Group One level."
