Hannon Eyeing Caulfield Cup With Pether's Moon
Top UK trainer Richard Hannon believes he has an ideal Caulfield Cup horse in Pether's Moon, winner of the Gr3 Glorious Stakes (12 furlongs) at Goodwood last Friday, reports horseracing.com.au. "We like him a lot and he's very much one we'd like to keep as he's still growing into his frame. There are plenty of options for him abroad and the Caulfield Cup is one we're considering," said Hannon. Champion jockey Richard Hughes, who had to work overtime to coax the best out of the Dylan Thomas 4YO, agrees with Hannon that the $2.5m Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on 18 October is a suitable target. "I think we'll have to put something on his head. He is not ungenuine, he is just lazy," Hughes said. "You think you are going better than you are and you don't find a whole lot but he finds enough to get there." he added, "He is a big, late maturing horse and Australia is written all over him, he is made for it." Pether's Moon has 4 wins and 8 placings (including the Gr2 Princess of Wales's Stakes) from 14 starts for £164,043 earnings.
