El Roca To Arrive in Australia This Weekend
Smart Kiwi galloper El Roca (Fastnet Rock-Rubimill, by Rubiton) will fly to Australia on Saturday after his final hit-out on home soil, reports racingnetwork.com.au. The 4YO son of Fastnet Rock finished third behind Bomber Jet in a 1040m barrier trial at Te Teko yesterday morning. "Very happy with him, he was just there for a day out," said co-trainer Trent Busuttin. "That will tuck him up a lot. He still had a bit of condition on him and he had a good blow afterwards but as I said that will bring him on." El Roca is being aimed at the Gr1 Memsie Stakes and will resume in the Listed Regal Roller Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on 16 August. "He gets on a plane on Saturday and will race the next Saturday (Regal Roller Stakes). A couple of good gallops between now and then and he'll be spot on first-up," said Busuttin. Busuttin and his training partner Natalie Young are hoping to win a Gr1 during the spring with the well-bred entire to secure his future at stud. "The Memsie gives him a good opportunity for that Group I win albeit it's at weight-for-age against the top-line horses," Busuttin continued. "If he can run well in that without winning there's a nice race a month later, the Group I Rupert Clarke. It's a Group I but it's probably a step down from the Memsie Stakes."
