Lady Sharapova Stakes Bound

Thursday, 7th August 2014

Valuable filly Lady Sharapova (Fastnet Rock-Perfect Persuasion, by Encosta de Lago) will be aimed at some of the feature fillies races during the spring after shedding her maiden status at Canterbury yesterday. The beautifully bred daughter of Fastnet Rock is out of a full-sister to 4-time Gr1-winning champion filly Alinghi and was an $800,000 purchase by Hawkes Racing at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Coolmore Stud. Co-trainer Michael Hawkes said it was important for the 3YO to get a win and boost her confidence before tackling better company over the carnival. "She was entered on Saturday in a stakes race but we elected to come here to get a win under her belt," Hawkes told TVN. "She's a really nice filly going forward. I think she is capable of going to Stakes level this preparation again." Lady Sharapova took her record to 1 win and 1 placing (including the Listed Talindert Stakes in February) from 3 starts for $35,575 earnings.
