Peintre Celebre Adds Ireland Gr3

Thursday, 7th August 2014

At Cork in Ireland, former Coolmore shuttler Peintre Celebre (Nureyev-Peinture Bleue, by Alydar) added a Group success when talented 3YO filly Edelmira (Peintre Celebre-Elbasana, by Indian Ridge) scored by 3.25-lengths for trainer Dermot Weld in the €75,000 Gr3 Give Thanks Stakes (12 furlongs) for 3YO+ fillies and mares, over 4YO mare Dark Crusader (Cape Cross-Monty's Girl, by High Chaparral) & fellow 3YO filly Shell House (Galileo-Bonnie Byerly, by Dayjur). This was the first stakes victory for The Aga Khan-owned Edelmira who took her record to 2 wins from 3 starts for €55,650 earnings. Edelmira's dam, Elbasana, is a half-sister to Irish Oaks winner Ebadiyla and to Ascot Gold Cup winners Estimate and Enzeli. This is an outstanding family that also includes recent Epsom Oaks and King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Stakes winner Taghrooda. If that isn't impressive enough, all of the aforementioned mares descend from one of the finest broodmares in the Stud Book, namely Frizette, ancestress of the legendary stallions Mr Prospector & Seattle Slew.
