Royal Delta's Dam Euthanized

Thursday, 7th August 2014

Delta Princess, dam of champion US racemare Royal Delta, was euthanized on Tuesday due to a degenerative stifle condition, according to a release from Adena Springs, reports bloodhorse.com. By A.P. Indy out of Gr2 winner Lyphard's Delta, Delta Princess made a significant name for herself on the track winning six stakes races and over US$740,000 prize-money. However, it was in the breeding barn that she distinguished herself, producing 6-time Gr1 winner and three-time Eclipse Award-winner Royal Delta (Empire Maker-Delta Princess, by A.P. Indy). "It is with great sadness that we had to humanely euthanize Delta Princess early this morning," said Adena Springs' general manager Eric Hamelback. "Her chronic stifle issue caused her significant discomfort overnight and it was clear that it was our only course of action. She was a remarkable producer throughout her career and we are all deeply saddened that it was cut so short." Delta Princess has a 2YO son named Khozan, who was sold to Al Shaqab Racing for US$1 million, and a yearling colt by Street Cry yet to race. Royal Delta sold for US$8.5 million at the Keeneland November Sale as a broodmare prospect. Watch her sell below.
