Kingman Passes Cirrus In Race For Horse Of the Year

Friday, 8th August 2014

Kingman's brilliant victory in the Gr1 Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood has seen him overhaul long-time leader Cirrus des Aigles in the race to be crowned 2014 Cartier Horse Of The Year, reports telegraph.co.uk. The outstanding 3YO, whose Sussex success entrenched his reputation as Europe's best miler, has opened up a decisive lead between he and is rivals in the HOTY category but the John Gosden-trained star has an even more commanding lead in the 3YO colt category. Gosden is dominating the 3YO awards and his brilliant Oaks & King George winner Taghrooda is going to take some catching in the fillies section. The news yesterday that she is heading to York's Ebor meeting in late August for the Yorkshire Oaks should ensure she cements her advantage and even cuts into Kingman's lead in the Horse Of The Year category as he is not expected to run again until Champions day at Ascot on 18 October. Horse Of The Year (points tally):

  • Kingman 160
  • Cirrus Des Aigles 124
  • Taghrooda 96
  • Australia 92
  • Mukhadram 84
  • Night Of Thunder 76
  • Noble Mission 74
  • Slade Power 72
  • Toronado 72
  • Avenir Certain 64
  • Miss France 64
