Time To Dream Big
It only seems like yesterday when Dream Ahead (Diktat-Land of Dreams, by Cadeaux Genereux) defeated the great Goldikova in the 2011 Gr1 Prix de la Foret following an epic duel that virtually lasted the length of the Longchamp straight. Yet the coming months will see European buyers afforded their first opportunity to purchase their own 'Dream Horse'. Emirates Park shuttler Dream Ahead retired to stud a 5-time Gr1 winner of races over 1200-1400m from only nine starts, and was recognized as the joint champion 2YO of Europe alongside the legendary Frankel, as well as the Champion Sprinter of Europe at three. The middle of this month signals the start of a new era for Dream Ahead as his first yearlings are offered at public auction. Beginning with the Arqana Deauville Yearling Sale on August 16-18, the series continues with Ireland's premier bloodstock sale staged by Goffs in late September, and then Britain's No.1 auction at Tattersalls in early October. Looking at Dream Ahead's Arqana consignment, it is easy to understand why there's so much anticipation regarding his first yearlings. Among the highlight lots are:
- Lot 25: Colt x Tarawa (Green Tune) which is closely-related to Gr1-winning 2YO and leading freshman sire Arcano.
- Lot 172: Bay Filly x Pertinence (Fasliyev) who is a half-sister to Gr1-placed French filly La Peinture and closely-related to Peintre Celebre.
- Lot 268: Bay Filly x Big Monologue (Testa Rossa). From a stakes-winning Irish-bred daughter of Testa Rossa who is closely-related to the David Hayes-trained Gr3 winner Alzora.
Emirates Park is staging its annual Open Days on August 23-24 when Dream Ahead and all of the stud's NSW stallions will be paraded. Dream Ahead will stand the 2014 breeding season at a fee of $27,500. Below is a video highlighting Dream Ahead's appeal among breeders and owners.
