First Foal For Americain

Monday, 11th August 2014

The first Australian foal of 2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain (Dynaformer-America, by Arazi) was born at Swettenham Stud on Thursday night. The filly is out of the Desert Prince mare Whipping, an unraced half-sister to Gr1 Australian Cup and Gr1 Turnbull Stakes winner Zipping (Danehill-Social Scene, by Grand Lodge) and Listed winner Work The Room (Bel Esprit). This is an outstanding staying family that also includes 4-time Gr1 winner Scorpion (dual Coronation Cup winner), and two-time Ascot Gold Cup winner and French St Leger winner Ardross. "She is a very, very good-looking foal and if that is an indication of what Americain is throwing in the southern hemisphere then we'll be very happy," Swettenham's Brian Gorman said. "It's always an exciting time of year but certainly the anticipation and expectations with the Americains makes it even better." Swettenham Stud manager Brian Gorman said the foal was born quickly in a "straightforward" delivery. "It is a very well-conformed foal, very strong and active, and we are very pleased that the first foal is such a positive article," Gorman said. "It is a very pleasing result and we look forward to the rest of his crop this season." Americain, who covered 155 mares in his initial book at Swettenham last season, will stand his second southern hemisphere season for $13,750 before shuttling back to Calumet Farm in Kentucky in the US.
