Galileo Adds Ireland Gr3

Monday, 11th August 2014

At Leopardstown in Ireland, former Coolmore shuttler and triple Gr1-winning champion European sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Group success when 4YO entire Eye Of The Storm (Galileo-Mohican Princess, by Shirley Heights) scored by 0.75-length for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the Gr3 Ballyroan Stakes (12 furlongs) for 3YO+, over 3YO filly Roheryn (Galileo-La Chunga, by More Than Ready) & 3YO colt Streetcar To Stars (Sea The Stars-Approach, by Darshaan). "I'm delighted. He only has one eye so he gets a bit intimidated sometimes. Coming out of stalls, he wasn't sure where he was so he went a bit right, but he settled into the race when he worked out where he was. When he goes left-handed, he can't see the rail," O'Brien told RTE Sport. "He's in the American Leger at Arlington later this month and he's a possibility for that." Eye Of The Storm took his record to 4 wins (including the Listed Loughbrown Stakes) and 4 placings (including the Gr3 British Champions Long Distance Cup) from 11 starts for £135,890 earnings. He is a full-brother to three-time Gr1-winning stallion Rip Van Winkle, who stands at Coolmore in Ireland and shuttles to Windsor Park Stud in New Zealand.
