Another Winner For Alfred Nobel

Tuesday, 12th August 2014

Lynward Park shuttler Alfred Nobel's excellent start to his career continued when Run The Red Light (Alfred Nobel-Lilakiya, by Dr Fong) won the European Breeders Fund Fillies (7 furlongs) at The Curragh in Ireland on Sunday. Run The Red Light started at 50/1 in her second race start and led throughout to defeat Hamdan Al Maktoum's Tamadhar, the 2/1 favourite, by 3.25-lengths with Pour Deux in third. Two races later Dick Whittington won the Gr1 Phoenix Stakes for trainer Aidan O'Brien, who prepared Alfred Nobel to win the same race in 2009. Alfred Nobel's sire, Danehill Dancer, won the Phoenix Stakes in 1995. Run The Red Light's explosive win on one of Ireland's feature race days followed Arthur Martinleake's 3-length win over six furlongs at Yarmouth in England three days earlier. Alfred Nobel now has four individual winners and six individual place getters from his first crop to race. He is being given a break from shuttling this year and will remain at Coolmore Stud, Ireland, but will return to WA for the 2015 breeding season.
