Conners Pleased With Dear Demi

Tuesday, 12th August 2014

Trainer Clarry Conners believes talented staying mare Dear Demi (Dehere-Shirley, by Zabeel) is in for a big spring carnival after winning a trial in impressive fashion at Hawkesbury yesterday. Conners said the VRC Oaks winner, who is entered for the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate, had spelled well and returned to his stables in excellent consition. "I was tickled pink with her trial," Conners told racingnetwork.com.au. "She's come back much sharper this preparation, which is nice. James McDonald said it's the best she's ever felt." He added, "I hope he's right, but I think he's on the right track. I've been very happy with her. When she spelled this time the people at Strawberry Hill purposefully kept weight off her." Dear Demi will have just one start in Sydney when she resumes in the Toy Show Quality at Randwick on 23 August 23, before heading to Melbourne. She will then use the Let's Elope Stakes at Flemington on 13 September and the Stocks Stakes at Moonee Valley on 26 September as prep races for the Caulfield Cup.
