Pride To Be Patient With Tiger

Tuesday, 12th August 2014

Joe Pride says he is prepared to rest top sprinter Tiger Tees (Dubawi-Parfore, by Gold Brose) rather than risk running him on hard tracks during the spring, reports NZ Racing Desk. Pride elected to take Tiger Tees down to Melbourne for the Gr3 Aurie's Star Stakes last weekend in preference to the Gr2 Missile Stakes in Sydney in the hope of striking softer ground. The Gr1-winning son of Dubawi did not get his preferred surface, but his superior class got him over the line. "It was great and I had a tear in my eye," Pride said. "When a plan comes off it's always a pleasing result. I don't mind if he doesn't race again this spring." He added, "It's all about the autumn with him and I'm not going to bang him around against the good sprinters on hard tracks." Tiger Tees' Aurie's Star victory was the first time Pride has trained a winner down the famous straight six at Flemington. "I've been trying to win a race down the straight since I took Red Oog there about 10 years ago," he said.
