Impressive Winner For Wanted

Wednesday, 13th August 2014

The David Hayes and Tom Dabernig-trained Shaf looked a potential stakes horse in the making when running out an impressive winner of a 3YO maiden (1100m) on Geelong's synthetic track yesterday. Stable representative Bruno Rouge-Serrett said that connections hold the 3YO in high regard and intimated that he may be aimed at stakes races in the spring. "He's a nice horse. He'll continue to learn his trade and hopefully take on the big boys later," Rouge-Serrett told TVN. "He's still got a little bit to learn but he'll improve mentally as well as physically from that run. Dave and Tom will keep him going and hopefully he can reach the level we think he's capable of." Shaf is from the first-crop of Gr1-winning Fastnet Rock stallion Wanted, who stands at Eliza Park International in Victoria at a fee of $33,000. He is the fourth foal to race for the stakes-winning Jade Robbery mare Jade Diva, who has also produced Gr3 Sweet Embrace Stakes winner Jade Marauder (Fastnet Rock) and Gr3 Thousand Guineas Prelude & Gr3 WATC Sires' Produce Stakes winner Bliss Street. Shaf was a $420,000 purchase by Shadwell Australia at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Yarraman Park Stud.
