Stable Change For Cauthen

Wednesday, 13th August 2014

Stakes-winning Kiwi galloper Cauthen (Darci Brahma-Minori Express, by Green Line Express) has been transferred to the stable of Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young for the upcoming spring carnival, reports Sky Racing. Busuttin said Cauthen would fly to Melbourne tomorrow to join his spring carnival string which is headlined by dual Gr1 placegetter El Roca. Formerly prepared by Andrew Campbell, Cauthen has had five starts for two wins including the Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes in Melbourne last August when he beat subsequent Cox Plate winner Shamus Award and Caulfield Guineas winner Long John. "He (Cauthen) is on a plane on Wednesday and joins the stable then," Busuttin said. "He will be at the track on Thursday with a saddle on his back and we'll go from there." Busuttin nominated the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes and Gr1 Toorak Handicap as suitable targets for the son of Darci Brahma, adding that a tilt at the Cox Plate could also be on the agenda. "We'll find a Rating 90 race or something like that to kick him off in and if he can do well there, a race like the Rupert Clarke Stakes or the Toorak Handicap would probably be ideal targets for him," Busuttin said. "If he happened to win those races there's the Cox Plate there, but obviously that's the cream of the crop. So we'll see."
