Australian Trip Possible For Viadana
Trainer Lance Noble will begin finalising spring plans for his dual Gr1 winner Viadana (Towkay-Yeah Nah, by Kinjite) after she resumes in Saturday's Gr3 Lisa Chittick Foxbridge Plate (1200m) at Te Rapa, reports NZ Racing Desk. The Matamata trainer has the 7YO mare in good order for her first-up assignment and says her performance there will tell him whether to head to Hastings for the opening day of the carnival a fortnight later. "I'm very keen on Te Rapa, unless it's a heavy, heavy track and hopefully the weather will settle down," Noble said. "It all depends how she comes through the race and I wouldn't rule out the Makfi, or we wait for the Windsor Park. I haven't backed her up too quickly before, but if she had a relatively easy run then we'd look at it." He added, "In previous years I've been worried about weight and maturity and I don't have to be concerned about that now." Viadana hasn't raced since finishing fifth in the Gr1 Queen of the Turf Stakes at Randwick in the autumn and an Australian campaign is on her agenda again for the spring. "I'll see how she goes on Saturday and three weeks after the Hastings mile (the Windsor Park) is a fillies' and mares' race in Melbourne and then the Myer Classic [Gr1] at Flemington," Noble said.
