UK Winner For Starspangledbanner

Thursday, 14th August 2014

Exciting stallion Starspangledbanner had yet another juvenile winner in the UK overnight with 2YO colt Star Cracker winning at Beverley. Trained by Michael Dods, Star Cracker was having his second career start after an inglorious debut when beaten 9-lengths in a 2YO maiden (1000m) at Thirsk two weeks ago. However, Star Cracker put that effort well and truly behind him when scoring by 0.25-length over Jebediah Shine and Rock Follies despite racing greenly in the straight. The Australian-bred Starspangledbanner (Choisir-Gold Anthem, by Made of Gold) completed a remarkable double when his son The Wow Signal won the Gr2 Coventry Stakes and his daughter Anthem Alexander landed the Gr2 Queen Mary Stakes at Royal Ascot in June. The son of Choisir, who has had fertility issues in the past, will rejoin the Coolmore roster in Ireland next year after completing his second season covering a small but select book at Rosemont Stud in Victoria.
