Adelaide Wins US Gr1 Secretariat Stakes

Monday, 18th August 2014

At Arlington Park in the US, former Coolmore shuttler and triple Gr1-winning champion European sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO colt Adelaide (Galileo-Elletelle, by Elnadim) scored by 1.5-lengths for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the US$500,000 Gr1 Secretariat Stakes (10 furlongs) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colts Tourist (Tiznow-Unbridled Melody, by Unbridled's Song) & Sheldon (Purim-Golden Disk, by Diesis). This was the first Gr1 victory for Adelaide who took his record to 3 wins (including the Gr3 Gallinule Stakes) and 3 placings (including the Gr1 Belmont Derby) from 6 starts for over £422,000 earnings. Adelaide is now likely to begin preparations for a tilt at the Gr1 WS Cox Plate in October, after Coolmore racing manager James Bester revealed last week that a 50 per cent share in the colt had been sold to Australian interests.
