Arqana August Sale Day-2: €1.1M For Chicquita Sibling
An Invincible Spirit half-brother to Irish Oaks winner Chicquita became the third seven-figure lot to change hands at this year's Arqana August Yearling Sale at Deauville when sold for €1.1 million on Sunday, reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. The colt, whose dam Prudenzia is a Listed-winning daughter of Dansili from the family of top-class fillies Alexandrova and Magical Romance, was bought by Peter Doyle with South African visitor Derek Brugman on behalf of Mayfair Speculators, a group of businessmen headed by Markus Jooste. Mayfair Speculators have made a big impact at this year's sale, having also purchased fillies by Galileo, Sea The Stars and Monsun for €1m, €700,000 and €650,000 in Saturday's opening session. "He'll stay in France to be trained," explained Brugman. "The plan is to expand our presence in France and become a top operation with stallions and mares, but it's early days. At the moment we're breeding in South Africa, but we want to expand to Europe, and France seems like a good place to do it because of the premiums." Among the other highlights was a Rock Of Gibraltar half-sister to this season's top 3YO French filly Avenir Certain, who is headed for Japan after being sold to Emmanuel de Seroux on behalf of Riki Takahashi for €500,000.
