Stopchargingmaria Wins US Gr1 Alabama Stakes

Monday, 18th August 2014

At Saratoga racecourse in the US, former shuttler Tale Of The Cat (Storm Cat-Yarn, by Mr Prospector) celebrated a Gr1 success when 3YO filly Stopchargingmaria (Tale of the Cat-Exotic Bloom, by Montbrook) scored by 0.75-length for trainer Todd Pletcher in the US$600,000 Gr1 Alabama Stakes (10 furlongs) for 3YO fillies, over fellow 3YO fillies Joint Return (Include-Brunswick Star, by Brunswick) & Miss Besilu (Medaglia d'Oro-Quiet Dance, by Quiet American). The talented Stopchargingmaria took her record to 6 wins (including the Gr1 CCA Oaks & Gr2 Black-Eyed Susan Stakes) and 2 placings (including the Gr1 Frizette Stakes) from 10 starts for US$1,414,000 earnings. While Untapable may be considered the best 3YO filly in North America, Stopchargingmaria established herself as a close second after her second Gr1 win in a row, reports Blood-Horse. "She's in the mix (for championship honors) now," said trainer Todd Pletcher, who was saddling up his second consecutive Alabama winner after Princess Of Sylmar's victory last year. "We've got to keep winning. I'm not sure the Cotillion is the race we'll choose. Maybe we'll go to the Beldame (Gr1 on 27 September at Belmont Park). We'll just have to see how she comes out of this. It probably will be one of those."
