Australian Campaign For Albany Reunion
Gr1-winning New Zealand galloper Albany Reunion (Fastnet Rock-Secret Silence, by Fusaichi Pegasus) will be a notable absentee from the Hawke's Bay carnival with connections opting for a spring campaign in Melbourne instead, reports NZ Racing Desk. Trainer Nigel Tiley has confirmed plans to take the Easter Handicap winner to Australia provided the lightly-raced son of Fastnet Rock races up to expectations in his two lead-up starts. "We're not going to Hastings with him – we're behind the eight ball to get him ready," Tiley said. "He grew so much and did so well during his break that even with six weeks of pre-training he was 50 kilos heavier than he was when he won the Easter." The winner of four of eight starts, Albany Reunion will resume in an open 1200m handicap at Ruakaka on 13 September. "He'll kick off there and then he'll run on September 27th at Ellerslie in another open 1200 and provided he comes up well we're going to take him to Australia for a Group Three race over 1400 metres at Caulfield on October 18," said Tiley, referring to the Moonga Stakes. "If he happens to win that then we'll be looking at the Emirates on the last day of the spring carnival at Flemington."
