International Gr1 For MM 2YO In Training Graduate

Tuesday, 19th August 2014

The winning run of graduates of the Magic Millions 2YOs in Training Sale continued on the weekend with another international Gr1 success. Joe Czarina, a flashy chestnut son of Falvelon, led home the field with a comprehensive 0.75-length win in the Swettenham Stud Sprint Trophy (1400m) in Penang on Sunday. The gelding was allowed to sit midfield for much of the race before coming with a well timed run to collar the eventual runner-up Balotelli, while Good Baby made ground to run third. The gelding boosted his record to 10 wins and six minor placings from 37 starts for earnings of M$942,200. Joe Czarina was purchased by the Penang Turf Club for $85,000 at the 2009 Gold Coast 2YOs in Training Sale from the draft of Washpool Lodge. The team from Washpool had earlier purchased Joe Czarina for $25,000 from the Willowbend Stud draft at the 2009 Gold Coast March Yearling Sale. By popular Queensland based sire Falvelon, Joe Czarina is one of two winners for his dam, the twice winning and four-time Adelaide placed Royal Academy mare Czarina, who is a daughter of Adrian Knox Stakes runner-up and multiple Sydney winner Staying Alice. Washpool Lodge, who also produced former 2YOs in Training Sale stars Shocking and Viva Pronto, has a draft of nine youngsters heading to this year's auction.
