Another One Out Of The Box For Meteor

Thursday, 21st August 2014

Ill-fated Widden Stud stallion Northern Meteor (Encosta de Lago) could have another special galloper if yesterday's Canterbury meeting in Sydney is any guide. Star sprinter Northern Meteor was owned and raced by Gooree Stud principal Eduardo Cojuangco, with the Philippine businessman also campaigning Northern Meteor's Gr1 Gr1 J.J.Atkins winner Romantic Touch. Likewise owned by Gooree, a full-brother to Romantic Touch called Burning Passion showed he is a potential star in the making when leaving his opposition floundering as a short-priced favourite with blinkers on for the first time at Canterbury. The Anthony Cummings-trained 3YO had indicated he had a bright future with a recent runner-up to untapped Darley colt Sarejevo, a horse he is likely to meet again in the Gr1 Golden Rose. Keeping it all in the family, Romantic Touch and Burning Passion are out of Dearness, a half-sister to the outstanding Gr1 duo Desert War and Laser Hawk.
