Australia Wins Gr1 Juddmonte International Stakes

Thursday, 21st August 2014

In the UK overnight at York, former shuttler and triple Gr1-winning champion European sire Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) celebrated a Gr1 triumph when his exceptional 3YO colt Australia (Galileo-Ouija Board, by Cape Cross) scored by 2-lengths for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the £800,000 Gr1 Juddmonte Stakes (11.5 furlongs) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colt The Grey Gatsby (Mastercraftsman-Marie Vision, by Entrepreneur) & 4YO entire Telescope (Galileo-Velouette, by Darshaan). Allowed to settle at the rear of the six horse field, Australia cruised to the lead with less than 400m to go, maintaining an easy advantage to the line. Australia took his record to 5 wins (including the Gr1 Epsom Derby, Gr1 Irish Derby & Gr3 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf Trial Stakes) & 2 placings (including the Gr1 2,000 Guineas) from 7 starts for £1,932,170 earnings.
