Avenir Looks Certain Starter For Arc

Thursday, 21st August 2014

Following last year's imposing Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe victory by then undefeated 3YO filly Treve, France appears to have another sophomore filly who could emulate her year older Arc alumni. At Deauville on Tuesday, the Jean-Claude Rouget-trained 3YO filly Avenir Certain (Le Havre-Puggy, by Mark Of Esteem) cruised past her rivals in the straight after biding her time at the rear in the Gr2 Shadwell Prix de la Nonette (2000m). The victory took her unblemished record to six, including the prestigious Gr1 Poule d'Essai des Pouliches at Longchamp in May and Gr1 Prix de Diane at Chantilly in June. The €45,000 bargain buy at Arqana's October Sale, her bank balance will swell considerably higher than the almost €1 million she has earned to date if she wins the rich Gr1 Arc in October.
