Diamond Valores Wins Again

Thursday, 21st August 2014

Well related 3YO colt Diamond Valores (Tavistock-Special Diamond, by Zabeel) maintained his unbeaten record when scoring an impressive 3-length win in the Hyland Race Colours Handicap (1550m) at Canterbury yesterday. Diamond Valores took his record to 2 wins from as many starts after saluting on debut at the same track two weeks ago. Trainer Peter Snowden, who previously labelled Diamond Valores as a potential Queensland Derby horse, says the colt will be restricted to one or two more starts this prep before being spelled for the autumn. "He was good first-up and I'd like to think he has improved again," Snowden told TVN. "He's come a long way and there's no doubt he's got talent but I'm not going to set the bar too high this campaign. I feel he is more an Autumn three-year-old than a horse to take down to Melbourne this preparation." He added, "There's one or two more races left in him this prep, I don't want to send him out too early and have him ready too soon in the Autumn." Bred by Sir Patrick Hogan's Cambridge Stud, Diamond Valores is by promising young sire Tavistock from the unraced Zabeel mare Special Diamond, a daughter of Gr1 winner and producer Diamond Lover. This makes Special Diamond a full-sister to Australian Derby winner Don Eduardo and Gr2 winner Peruzzi, and a three-quarter sister to brilliant Gr1-winning filly Tristalove and stakes winner Antwerp (both by Sir Tristram). This of course is the celebrated family of legendary broodmare Eight Carat, whom Diamond Valores boasts as his third dam.
