Taghrooda Faces Eight Rivals In Gr1 Yorkshire Oaks

Thursday, 21st August 2014

Meanwhile, today's Gr1 Darley Yorkshire Oaks (12 furlongs) for 3YO fillies at York has attracted a stellar field of nine. Part of the British Champions Series, the £330,000 Classic distance event will have one of the shortest priced favourites in its history with undefeated Sea The Stars filly Taghrooda (Sea The Stars-Ezima, by Sadler's Wells) likely to start deep in the red at around $1.30. Yet to taste defeat, the John Gosden-trained Taghrooda is raced by Sheikh Hamdan Al Maktoum in whose familiar silks she has won almost £1 million pounds from her quartet of victories, including the Gr1 King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes & Gr1 Epsom Oaks. Rated 12 pounds higher (134) than her nearest rival by Racing Post Ratings, the Yorkshire Oaks is expected to be little more than an exercise gallop for Taghrooda, whose Epsom Oaks win is below.
