Wise Dan To Return In Bernard Baruch

Thursday, 21st August 2014

Two-time US Horse of the Year Wise Dan is set begin his road to the Breeders' Cup World Championships in the Gr2 Bernard Baruch Handicap at Saratoga Race Course on 30 August, reports bloodhorse.com. Trainer Charles LoPresti had previously indicated a preference for the Gr1 Woodbine Mile as the 7YOs comeback race after recovering from colic surgery, but is opting for the Bernard Baruch two weeks earlier because "he's doing very well right now. He's on top of his game." LoPresti said there was a chance  Wise Dan would not run in the Bernard Baruch, but right now that is the plan. "The goal for this horse right now is the best route to get him to the Breeders' Cup," said LoPresti. "He's very good right now. This race makes sense. He's right in his back yard. All he has to do is walk across the street and run. Unless something goes wrong within the next 10 days, my decision is to enter in the Bernard Baruch and if all the stars line up, he will run in the Bernard Baruch."
