Tapestry Wins Gr1 Yorkshire Oaks

Friday, 22nd August 2014

In a significant upset at York overnight, former shuttler & Gr1 English Derby winner Galileo (Sadler's Wells-Urban Sea, by Miswaki) added a Gr1 success when beautifully bred filly Tapestry (Galileo-Rumplestiltskin, by Danehill) scored by a half-length for trainer Aidan O'Brien in the £330,000 Gr1 Yorkshire Oaks (12 furlongs) for 3YO fillies, over fellow fillies Taghrooda (Sea The Stars-Ezima, by Sadler's Wells) & Tasaday (Nayef-Tashelka, by Mujahid). Claiming the scalp of until-then undefeated $1.20 favourite Taghrooda, the Ballydoyle filly moved up to take over proceedings in the final 100 metres. With two runner-up placings – the Gr1 Moyglare Stakes & Gr1 Irish Oaks in her previous run – from her initial six starts, Gr2 Curragh Debutante Stakes winner Tapestry took her earnings to £353,238. Underlining the quality of the first two home was the 7-length margin to third-placed Tasaday.
