Iconic Wins Listed Carlyon Stakes

At Moonee Valley, Eliza Park's multiple Gr1-winning sire Bel Esprit (Royal Academy-Bespoken, by Vain) added a black-type quinella when 4YO gelding Iconic (Bel Esprit-Danavia, by Danehill) scored by 0.1-length for trainer Tony McEvoy in the $120,000 Listed Carlyon Stakes (1000m) for 4YO+, over 5YO mares Angels Beach (Bel Esprit-Descendant, by Zeditave) & Angelic Light (Holy Roman Emperor-Flashed, by Fuji Kiseki). This was the first stakes victory for Iconic who took his record to 4 wins and 4 placings (including the Gr2 Rubiton Stakes & Gr3 National Stakes) from 13 starts for $440,750 earnings. Iconic is the fourth foal to race from the beautifully bred Danehill mare Danavia, a daughter of Gr2 winner Scandinavia. Scandinavia is renowned as one of the finest broodmares in the country having produced Gr1 winner Magnus, Gr2 winners Wilander and Scandiva, Listed winner Arctic Flight, as well as the unraced Helsinge, dam of unbeaten world champion sprinter Black Caviar and 4-time Gr1 winner All Too Hard.
