Melbourne Cup On Agenda After Mutual's Ebor Win
Johnny Murtagh is considering a Melbourne Cup start for Mutual Regard (Hernando-Hidden Charm, by Big Shuffle) following his win in Saturday's Ebor Handicap (14 furlongs) at York, reports Sky Sports. The lightly raced Mutual Regard scored by 1.25-lengths over runner-up Van Percy in Europe's richest handicap with Elidor a further length back in third. The first two across the line could well meet again in three months at Flemington with Mutual Regard in the reckoning for a trip to Australia, while Van Percy is due to enter quarantine on 11 September with both the Caulfield Cup and Melbourne Cup in his sights. "This lad had been going well at home. I ran him in a Group Three last time and he ran a nice race behind Pale Mimosa," said Murtagh. "Ascot's Champions Day might be on his agenda now, but we'll see about the Melbourne Cup as he loves fast ground." Andrew Balding said of Van Percy: "That's it now, he'll be off to Australia. He goes into quarantine on September 11 and we'll look at his options out there."
