Scissor Kick Wins Gr3 Up And Coming Stakes

Monday, 25th August 2014

At Royal Randwick, Arrowfield Stud's Australian champion sire Redoute's Choice (Danehill-Shantha's Choice, by Canny Lad) added a Group quinella when talented 3YO colt Scissor Kick (Redoute's Choice-Back Pass, by Quest for Fame) scored by 0.1-length for trainer Paul Messara in the $125,000 Gr3 Up And Coming Stakes (1300m) for 3YOs, over fellow 3YO colt and stable-mate Panzer Division (Redoute's Choice-Desert Fight, by Hussonet) & 3YO colt Valentia (Fastnet Rock-Smart Company, by Mister C). Scissor Kick took his record to 3 wins (including the Listed Rosebud Handicap) from 4 starts for $169,275 earnings.  "A great result for the team obviously," a delighted Paul Messara told TVN. "They are two outstanding colts that both have unlimited ability." He added, "They both have stallion potential. Panzer Division was headed to the Spring Champion Stakes while Scissor Kick is definitely going to the Golden Rose, but they may both head there now." Bred by Jonathan Munz's GSA Bloodstock, Scissor Kick was a $200,000 purchase at the 2013 Inglis Australian Easter Yearling Sale from the draft of Broadwater Thoroughbreds as is raced by Arrowfield in partnership with Munz's Pinecliff Racing. Scissor Kick is a full-brother to stakes winner Shark Bite, who stands at Eliza Park Stud in Victoria. Both Scissor Kick and Shark Bite are from the Quest For Fame mare Back Pass, a half-sister to Gr2 winning sire Three Chimneys from the family of Juddmonte Farms' exceptional producer Hasili, dam of outstanding European sire Dansili (Danehill) and Gr1 winners Intercontinental (Danehill), Champs Elysees (Danehill), Cacique (Danehill), Banks Hill (Danehill) and Heat Haze (Green Desert).
