Sole Power Wins UK Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes

Monday, 25th August 2014

At York in the UK, 7YO gelding Sole Power (Kyllachy-Demerger, by Distant View) scored by 0.5-length for trainer Eddie Lynam in the £265,000 Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes (5 furlongs) for 3YO+, over 5YO entire Stepper Point (Kyllachy-Sacre Coeur, by Compton Place) & 3YO colt Extortionist (Dandy Man-Dream Date, by Oasis Dream). This was the second Nunthorpe win for Sole Power who first landed the Knavesmire sprint in 2010. The Irish trained sprinter took his record to 10 wins (including the Gr1 King's Stand Stakes - twice & Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes) and 13 placings (including the Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint, Gr1 Hong Kong Sprint, Gr1 King's Stand Stakes & Gr1 Nunthorpe Stakes) from 42 starts for £1,533,794 earnings. Trainer Eddie Lynam is considering an ambitious end of season campaign for Sole Power, who is set to compete in three different countries. "We haven't run in Ireland for a good while and weather permitting we'd like to run on Irish Champions Weekend," the Irishman told racingpost.com. "Then we will go to France for the Abbaye, but the ground will probably be too slow for him. The big target with him is Hong Kong. We finished second there last year to an exceptional sprinter and I'd love to win that one."
