Divan Launches Ambitious Spring Campaign

Tuesday, 26th August 2014

Exciting colt Divan will open his spring campaign in the Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa Plate (1400m) at Sandown on Wednesday, reports racingvictoria.net.au. The son of Zabeel, who is out of 7-time Gr1-winning Kiwi mare Seachange, created a huge impression on debut in April when storming home from near last to claim third behind Merion in the Listed ANZAC Stakes (1400m) at Flemington. Divan, who will carry the familiar navy blue and white silks of leviathan owner Lloyd Williams, will be ridden by top jockey Damien Oliver with the pair drawn in barrier 17. The Robert Hickmott-trained colt is among the leading fancies for the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) on 11 October. He is also nominated for the WS Cox Plate at Moonee Valley two weeks later. Team Williams will also use Wednesday's Sandown program to unveil imported 5YO Timikar in the Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1600m). By Dynaformer, the sire of 2010 Melbourne Cup winner Americain, the gelding has only had two career starts; finishing fourth on debut over 1400m in Ireland behind Foundry before winning his maiden over 2400m. Timikar hails from a prolific Gr1-producing European family that includes Irish Champion Stakes, Beverly D Stakes, & EP Taylor Stakes winner Timarida, Falmouth Stakes winner Pugnacity, & Locking Stakes winner Relkino.
