Happy Trails To Contest Memsie

Tuesday, 26th August 2014

Trainer Paul Beshara has confirmed that last year's Cox Plate runner-up Happy Trails (Good Journey-Madame Flurry, by Perugino) will run in Saturday's Gr1 Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Beshara said last season's dual Gr1 winner (Emirates Stakes and Turnbull Stakes) would be floated across from Adelaide this week after trialling impressively at Gawler last Friday. "Happy Trails trialled really well," said Beshara. "He settled last in his trial, came around the whole field about 10 wide and ran second – I was really pleased with the way he went." He added, "Like last year he'll probably need the Memsie run. If he wins it will be a big bonus, but it will bring him right on and he'll be ready then." Happy Trails finished seventh in last year's renewal of the Memsie before a much improved effort at his next start saw him place fourth behind Dundeel in the Gr1 Underwood Stakes. He then scored a narrow success over Puissance de Lune in the Gr1 Turnbull Stakes before his second to Shamus Award in the Cox Plate. Happy Trails opened his 2014 spring campaign with a moderate performance (beaten 4.8-lengths) behind Riziz in the Gr3 SAJC Spring Stakes (1200m) at Morphettville earlier this month.
