The Offer To Trial Again This Weekend
Gai Waterhouse says she is pleased with the progress of Melbourne Cup favourite The Offer (Montjeu-Valdara, by Darshaan) after the Irish-bred gelding trialled prior to the meeting at Randwick on Saturday, reports horseracing.com.au. "I thought his trial was nice on Saturday, but I don't think he's fully fit," said Waterhouse. "He ran on, but he didn't run right to the post. Tom (jockey Tommy Berry) was pleased, but I don't think he was quite fit." She added, "I'll keep him in Sydney and, weather permitting, will trial him between races next Saturday, then put him on a float to Melbourne." The Offer proved a dominant force in the staying races during the Sydney autumn carnival, winning the Gr3 Manion Cup (2400m), Gr2 Chairman's Handicap (2600m), and the Gr1 Sydney Cup (3200m). He is the current $11 TAB favourite for the $6.2 million Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on 4 November.
